Deir el-Medina was a purpose-built village for the artisans and workers who carved and decorated the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. The site preserves the workers’ own richly painted tombs, offering a rare window into the daily lives of ordinary ancient Egyptians rather than royalty.
